A Gamer Graduation! EGD Celebrates its First Commencement Ceremony

This time of year is always so exciting in the world of higher education.
Students who’ve completed their academic journeys get to put on that iconic cap and gown, receive their hard-earned degrees, and enjoy the fruits of their labor with friends and family at graduation.
The excitement is shared on the schools’ end, too, of course, as faculty get to witness the growth and success of the individuals they’ve supported and taught for years.
And last week, the EGD community was able to experience this–with the organization’s first-ever formal graduation ceremony!!
The Ceremony
We had the amazing opportunity to honor 26 hardworking and talented graduates who earned their bachelor’s or master’s degrees in various fields, including character art, game education, environmental studies, computer science, and more!
Each individual was able to experience walking in front of their peers and loved ones, hearing their names and incredible achievements announced as they shook hands with faculty and had their photos taken.
It was truly amazing to see our community come out to support the graduates, as well as the results of their resilience and the generosity of those who believed in them!
An Event for All: Games & Awards at End of Year!
A special thanks should also be given to the staff volunteers who put everything together!
Not only were they the brains behind the procession, but they also formally recognized external awards and summer internships received by many others within EGD (such as our resident GSP Fellow, Mikyle Mosquera, landing a tech art internship on Apex Legends at Respawn Entertainment!), handed out program and member-specific awards, and even set up a games expo filled with games created by students and graduates for attendees to try out!
Onward to the Next Level!
The EGD Collective wholeheartedly believes that all students deserve to pursue their passions and break into an industry where they can thrive and have their voices heard.
That’s why we love celebrating the drive of these bright graduates to create a better future in games and elsewhere.
To the grads…it’s been a long time coming, and we can’t wait to see where you’ll go from here! Congratulations!!!🎉🎓
