Trips & Travel
One of the most memorable parts of your journey is the chance to explore the world beyond your campus or city. Across the program, there are opportunities for travel at the Crew, Hub, and National levels. Some trips are tied to quests and awards, while others are simply for fun, connection, and adventure. Trips are some of the most formative experiences in EGD. Whether local outings or national conferences, travel builds independence and community in ways that can’t be replicated online.

Why Travel?
Travel lets you:
-
Build deeper friendships
-
Explore new environments
-
Gain cultural and creative inspiration
-
Challenge yourself in safe, structured ways
-
Experience the world as a learner, creator, and leader
No matter where you go, travel is a chance to broaden your perspective, bond with your community, and bring new inspiration back to your crew. Whether it’s a simple afternoon outing with your crew or a cross-country adventure with members from Hubs you’ve never met before, trips give you a chance to step outside your routine and grow in new ways.
Local & Crew Trips
Crews often plan smaller local adventures—day trips, museum visits, parks, community events, meetups with other crews, or field experiences that connect to quests. These trips are flexible and member-driven. They help strengthen your group dynamic, make memories, and give you opportunities to practice leadership and exploration in a low-stakes environment. Examples include:
-
Visiting a local game studio, museum, or cultural center
-
Doing a quest in a new neighborhood or part of the city
-
Attending a festival, screening, or workshop together
-
A crew retreat or reflection day
Crew trips can count toward certain quests if you choose to integrate them, but they never have to. Sometimes a crew just needs a break and a change of scenery.

Hub Level Trips
Hubs coordinate larger regional trips that bring multiple crews together. These experiences help you build connections across your city or region, meet new people, and participate in unique opportunities you might not have access to on your own. Examples include:
-
Regional summits and leadership weekends
-
Studio visits, conventions, or industry events
-
Multi-Hub collaborations or service days
-
Overnight or weekend trips
Hub trips often have optional quest tie-ins—such as reflection prompts, field research activities, or leadership challenges—but you can attend purely for the experience.
National Trips
At the highest level, members may participate in national travel experiences open to all crews across the country. These trips are designed to be milestone moments in your journey—memorable, high-impact experiences that combine exploration, learning, and community building with people from many different Hubs. Examples include:
-
Annual national gatherings
-
Multi-day conferences and conventions
-
Industry trips (e.g., GDC, PAX, or other major events)
-
Special expeditions, retreats, or immersive learning experiences
Some national trips may fulfill specific components of quests or awards, but participation is always optional.
