Dear Gamer,

Welcome to the Gamer Letters! Here at EGD Collective, we want to find a medium to connect with our community. What better way to make things personal than writing a letter to you all? We want everyone to relate to us not only as an organization, but as people and fellow gamers. So greetings, dear reader! My name is Lainey, a writing intern for EGD, and I am excited to be on this journey with you.

Let’s take a moment to step back and take a breath. How are you doing? What’s going on in life? Are there any games you’ve been addicted to lately? I have been playing quite a bit of Ark: Survival Evolved lately. There’s something about taming a dino, giving it a name, and sharing that virtual bond with them that keeps me coming back for more. Actually, it’s been my way to escape the daily routine of school and work. I am in my final semester of college, and to put it nicely, my classes are pretty stressful. My schedule is jam-packed, but I spend my few hours of freedom with my dino children. Do you have any games that give you the same sense of relief?

I’m sure I’m not the only one juggling school and work. It can be hard, and I completely understand that. That’s part of the reason I fell in love with gaming. Ever since I was young, there was just something beautiful about being able to forget the anxieties of daily life, even if it was just through Super Mario Bros. My brother and I would sit in our video rocker chairs, grab our plate of pizza rolls, and conquer new worlds until after the sun went down and our mom called us for bedtime. Our Mario and Luigi duo was the greatest until one of us took the only flower power left. That’s when things got nasty.

Another series that introduced me to the gaming universe was The Legend of Zelda. I would always watch my brother geeking out over Majora’s Mask, so I had to see what all the hype was about. Turns out, my brother wasn’t the kind of kid who enjoyed his little sister being into the same nerdy things as him, but I didn’t let that stand in my way. I still discovered some of my favorite games of all time through him. The nostalgia that comes with these memories always makes me long for simpler times. What are some of your favorite nostalgic games?

I may be the one pioneering this journey, but I want you to meet all of my fellow writers here on the EGD journalism team! We are here to learn and grow together, bonding through our gaming experiences. Whether it be school, work, or anything in between, we are all in this together. Until next time.

Your Fellow Gamer,

Lainey
