Welcome back to the Weekly Gaming Round-Up!
Every week, we cover the latest in the gaming world. This week, we got to see the release of some classic video game reboots including Konami's Contra Returns and Inti Creates' Blaster Master Zero 3!
On Monday, July 26, Contra Returns was released for Android and IOS devices. Contra Returns was developed by Konami and Timi.
Contra Returns was originally released in China in 2017.
Contra Returns is a side-scrolling shooter starring famous characters Bill Rizer, Lance Bean, Lucia, Sheena and Brad Fang in their mission to defeat their alien enemies.
The mobile game will include upwards of 200 levels, new storylines and improved graphics.
On Tuesday, July 27, Neo: The World Ends With You was released for the Playstation 4 and Nintendo Switch. Neo: The World Ends With You was developed by Square Enix and h.a.n.d and was published by Square Enix.
Neo: The World Ends With You is an anime style action role playing game starring characters Rindo, Nagi, Fret and Minamimoto. Rindo finds himself in an alternate dimension in which he has to survive the “Reapers Game” wherein ghosts fight for resurrection.
In other news, Great Ace Attorney: Chronicles was released for the Playstation 4, Nintendo switch, and PC. The Game was developed and published by Capcom.
Great Ace Attorney: Chronicles is a compilation of both games The Great ace Attorney: Adventures, and its sequel The Great Ace Attorney 2: Resolve. The former was originally released for the Nintendo 3ds in 2015 and the latter was released in 2017.
Both titles within Great Ace Attorney: Chronicles feature rookie attorney Ryunosuke Naruhodo ( ancestor of Phoenix Wright) and his criminal cases in 19th century Japan and England.
On Wednesday, July 28, Chernobylite was released for PC. Chernobylite was developed by The Farm 51 and published by All in! Games.
Chernobylite is a science fiction horror/survival game. The game has RPG and non linear storytelling elements. You play as a physicist who is an ex-employee of the Chernobyl Power Plant. Your goal is to investigate the disappearance of your “beloved”. After the Chernobyl Nuclear catastrophe of 1986, you must go back 30 years later to uncover the mystery.
Chernobylite will release on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on September 7, 2021.
The Forgotten City was also released on July 28 for the PlayStation 5/4, Xbox Series X/S, One and PC. The Forgotten City was developed by Modern Storytelling and published by Dear Villagers.
The Forgotten City is a mystery adventure game taking place 2000 years ago in a cursed Roman City where “if one person sins, everybody dies”.
In the game, you investigate and solve mysteries while exploring an open world ancient Roman City.
On Thursday, July 29, Blaster Master Zero 3 was released for Xbox Series S/X, One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Blaster Master Zero 3 was developed and published by Inti Creates.
Blaster Master Zero 3 is an eight bit top down and side scrolling action exploration game. In the game, you play as series protagonist, Jason Frudnick on a mission to save the series heroine, Eve from the forces of the Sophia Force.
The new game allows Jason to travel between dimensions with the VRV System and the power of reversal. Jason will also benefit from a revamped gun level system in which he can access 5 different weapon types at all times.
Blaster Masters was originally released for the Nintendo Entertainment System in 1988. The series has been rebooted twice.
The Ascent was also released on July 29, for the Xbox Series X/S, One and PC. The Ascent was developed by Neon Giant and published by Curve Digital.
The Ascent is a Cyberpunk style Solo/co-op action shooter RPG. The game takes place on a cyberpunk planet called Veles in the “Ascent Group Archilochus” a “self-contained corporate-run metropolis” where you are owned by “the company” along with everyone else in your district until the system collapses and the city goes haywire. It quickly becomes your job to find out why and stop the chaos.
On Friday, July 30, No Longer Home released for PC. No Longer Home was developed by Humble Grove and published by Fellow Traveller.
No Longer Home is a semi autobiographical point and click game in a “ magical realist world”. Throughout the game you explore the lives of Bo and Ao, two students graduating university who are moving out after having lived together for a year and are preparing for post educational life.
In other news, it was announced that the PlayStation first party exclusive, Horizon Forbidden West’s release date would be pushed to 2022.
Horizon Forbidden West is the sequel to the critically acclaimed open world action RPG, Horizon Zero Dawn. In both games you play as Aloy, a young hunter who was cast out of her tribe with a mission to discover her destiny in an apocalyptical world littered with ferocious mechanical beasts.
Both Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West were and are being developed by Guerrilla Games.
